Episode 1 and the law
The opening card states the rule: laying a hand on the queen is punishable by death. A stable hand named Kale is then ordered into the Queensguard, to the surprise of the court.
The queen, who is 22, asks if he knows why she picked him. Her answer is simple: when she looks at him, he looks back. She posts him outside her bedchamber from that night.
She points out that the law restricts his hands, not hers. Episode 2 stays at the premise, with each night on watch a risk and the queen daring him to cross the line.
Characters
This is a story about adults, led by the queen and Kale. For a second castle story, see The Prince's Last Week Unwed.
