- Scorching (heat 4 of 5)
Our Surprise for Mom! is a CandyShorts series with 5 episodes, all under two minutes. The lead is Sofia Fletcher, a Candy character, and the heat label reads Scorching.
Forty guests, one deadline
Sofia plans the party with her stepdad, who married her mother three years ago. They need the house empty of Mom while forty guests are arranged for Saturday. He is the only one who can keep her away, and Sofia has also called Aunt Sarah, who has not spoken to Mom in four years.
Hiding a secret keeps them close. By the end of episode 1 the two are admitting what they have noticed and picking a time when Mom is at work. Episode 2 brings Aunt Sarah in.
The mood is closer to a farce than a thriller: guest lists, a hidden phone call, a mother who senses something odd. The episode ends on a plan, and the plan is not about the cake.
Who is in the house
Sofia, her stepdad, her mother and Aunt Sarah are all adults. The stepdad married her mother, so the bond is legal and not biological. They are Candy characters.
The family is the cast, which makes the secrets feel close to home. Aunt Sarah is the outsider whose return changes the mix.
