Jake has no job and no savings, and a notice on his door says he must leave by Friday. His landlady, Vanessa, lays out two choices: she calls the agency, or they find an arrangement that has nothing to do with cash.
He agrees, and the episode treats it as business. A week later a new voice sounds in the hallway. Mia, Vanessa's grown child, works out how he has been paying and offers to stay quiet for a price of her own.
Episode 2 follows the synopsis: Jake is stuck between the woman who holds his lease and the woman who holds his secret.
Landlady, her heir and the tenant
Jake, Vanessa and Mia make up the cast. All three are adults, and all are Candy characters. Vanessa and Mia, an adult pair, are the two sides of his problem. Jake is the one with everything to lose, and the writers keep him busy: every scene adds a person who knows a little more than he wants them to. The cast stays small, which makes each new reveal land harder in a runtime this short.
